Wait — What Actually IS the National Guard?
The Oregon Army National Guard is made up of Oregonians — people who live, work, and go to school right here in the state. Guard members serve part-time, usually one weekend a month and two weeks in the summer. The rest of the time, they're doing exactly what you're doing: going to school, working their jobs, raising families.
The Guard has a dual mission. First, we support the Governor during state emergencies — wildfires, floods, search and rescue. When you see troops responding to disasters in Oregon, that's us. Second, we maintain readiness to serve the nation when called.
It's not full-time active duty. It's not the Reserves. It's Oregon's own force — locally rooted, community focused.

A Path for Everyone
Programs designed for where you are in life.
High School Students
Get paid to attend Recruit Sustainment Program (RSP) one weekend a month while in school as a junior and senior. Plus get paid to attend initial training in the summer.
College Students
Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP) + Minuteman Scholarship — serve while earning your degree debt-free. 100% tuition assistance at Oregon public schools plus up to $50K in student loan repayment.
Parole in Place (PIP)
Immigration support for qualifying family members of service members — legal stability through service.
Working Adults
Keep your civilian career and add Guard service — one weekend a month, two weeks a year. Two paychecks, one mission.
