TR
For partners

FOR SPOUSES AND SIGNIFICANT OTHERS.

If your partner is thinking about the Guard, you deserve straight answers. The Guard is part-time. Drill weekends are predictable. Deployments, when they happen, are planned months in advance. Here is the honest picture of what life looks like.

The honest schedule

ONE WEEKEND A MONTH. TWO WEEKS A YEAR.

Drill weekend is Saturday and Sunday at the local armory. Two consecutive weeks per year are annual training. That is the whole time commitment in peacetime. Drill dates are published a year out so you can plan.

Deployments

PLANNED. PUBLISHED. SUPPORTED.

Federal deployments happen on published rotation cycles. Your unit gives you notice months ahead so you can plan childcare, finances, and work. We will not surprise you.

What you get too

HEALTHCARE. CHILDCARE. COMMUNITY.

Guard families get healthcare coverage, childcare support during drill, and access to the family-readiness network — which is a real community, not a formality. The other spouses become your friends.

The money

HOW IT ADDS UP.

Drill pay each month. Tuition assistance if your partner is in school. Tax advantages in most states. Ask me and I will print the actual numbers for your family.

FAQ

THE QUESTIONS I HEAR MOST.

How often will they be away?

One weekend a month plus two weeks a year in peacetime. Federal deployments are planned months in advance when they happen.

What about healthcare?

You and your family are covered under TRICARE Reserve Select (or equivalent) plans. I can walk you through enrollment.

What support is there for me?

Every unit has a family-readiness group. It is a real support network — other spouses, shared logistics, shared childcare during drill weekends.

What if I move jobs or we move states?

Inter-state transfers happen. The Guard has units in every state. I will help you figure out the logistics.
